Senior Logan Doman finished sixth in the 182-pound division Saturday in Portland

PORTLAND — Logan Doman returned to the podium Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

After placing fifth in the 160-pound division a year ago, the

Canby senior placed sixth at the 2020 Class 6A wrestling state championships.

Wrestling in the 182-pound weight class, Doman, the No. 7 seed, opened the tournament by pinning Grant senior Cormac O'Hagan early in the third period.

After losing to Forest Grove senior and No. 2 seed Gavin Rice by a 9-3 decision, Doman defeated Aloha senior and No. 5 seed Drew Fritz 3-2 in the consolation bracket.

Doman lost his final two matches, 5-1 to David Douglas senior and No. 3 Josiah Green, and then 9-7 to Centennial senior Bailey Sparks, to place sixth.

Canby senior Brent Patterson (195) also advanced to Saturday's competition.

After losing 8-0 to Reynolds sophomore and No. 2 seed Robert Plympton in the first round, Patterson worked his way through the consolation bracket.

Patterson defeated Lakeridge junior Spencer Lenius 5-2, Forest Grove senior Jeffrey Falla 3-1, and then Grants Pass junior and No. 6 seed David Ruiz 8-4 Friday.

Patterson's tournament then came to an end Saturday morning, one win shy of the placing rounds, with a 10-5 loss to Newberg junior and No. 7 seed Alec Love.

Canby took nine wrestlers to the state tournament.

Ethan Ensrud (113), Asher Chafee (126), K'den McMullin (138), and Kaden Boyd (170) all went 2-2 on Friday. Nick Marquez (120) and Dominic Netter (138) finished 1-2. Juan Vargas (160) went 0-2.

With 37 points, the Cougars finished 21st out of 50 Class 6A teams.
