OSAA delays start of spring sports
Canby's tennis and golf teams were scheduled to open the spring season Monday, followed by lacrosse on Tuesday, softball Wednesday and baseball Thursday.
Molalla also had a full slate of games on tap.
But none of that will be happening, and, for once, it has nothing to do with the weather.
Per Governor Brown's announcement regarding school closures due to the coronavirus, the Oregon School Activities Association has suspended interscholastic practices and contests for sports and activities for all member schools effective today through March 31.
Josh Oakley, a senior on the Canby baseball team, Tweeted Thursday night "Dear OSAA, please do not cancel my senior baseball season. Me and my teammates have worked too hard to have it all for nothing. Sincerely, seniors everywhere."
During this suspension the OSAA will evaluate this evolving public health situation with the Oregon Health Authority, the Oregon Department of Education, the OSAA Executive Board, the OSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and member school administrators from throughout the state to determine when, or if, to resume the spring season.
More information will be communicated via www.osaa.org as it becomes available.
