Cougar boys show quality in Tualatin run
The Canby High cross country team traveled to Tualatin March 10 for a league three-way with Tualatin, Canby and Tigard.
The Cougars finished second with 33 points, 11 points adrift of Tualatin (22), but 40 points ahead of Tigard (73).
"We gained a little more experience and had five of the first nine in the varsity boys race," said coach Tom Millbrooke. "We need to continue to improve as the short season progresses."
Leading the way for the Cougars was junior Tommy O'Neil, who traversed the 5,000 meter course in 17 minutes, 30.7 seconds, good enough for third individually. He was backed up by a nice grouping of teammates a few spots back with Joel Ibarra in sixth (18:14.7), Maddox Oliver in seventh (18:31.3), Matthew Dewar in eighth (18:36.7), and Jared Moon in ninth (18:58.1).
Rounding out Canby's varsity contingent was Carson Imdieke (12th, 19:15.9), Rhett Smith (15th, 19:37.2), and Easton Anderson (23rd, 19:53.8).
The Canby girls team did not field a varsity team for this race.
