Coach Schlatter notes that though overmatched, the Cougars fought for every point in season finale

Volleyball season came to an end for the Canby High squad Monday with a 3-0 loss to Jesuit. The Crusaders are one of the state's elite programs, but head coach Terri Jo Schlatter said the Cougars gave a good account of themselves.

"We were very much outmatched against Jesuit, but my team played hard and made them work for every point," Schlatter said. "The game felt closer than the scores reflected. We battled in most every rally but couldnt always win them."

Leading the way for Canby was Daley McClellan, who had 22 of the team's 27 total kills in the match.

"Daley played phenomenally," Schlatter said. "She led her team with passion and fire and never let up. And her team responded."

Caitlin Gay added four kills and 10 digs and "passed amazingly," Schlatter said, noting the play of Daphne Kropf, who had a kill and Kaiya Styskal who added a block.

"It was the biggest match many of the girls on this team have played (outside of Daley McClellan and Caitlin Gay) and I was proud of how they never backed down," Schlatter said. "It was a very emotional night as it was the last match for the five seniors. They can all be super proud of their effort."

For McClellan and Gay, it was also a chance to renew acquaintances with four teammates from their club team on a competitive stage.

"Super fun that you can go out and compete that hard against each other and then congratulate each other afterwards and then go on a play together in a qualifier this weekend," Schlatter said.
