The Cougars come up short in the team scores, but put together solid performances as district looms

Canby High's track and field team continued its shortened season with a dual meet at Oregon City Wednesday, May 5.

The Pioneers took both boys and girls portions of the team score, but the Cougars had some good performances in the afternoon.

Kyle Sandner led the boy's effort with three individual wins, capturing the 100 meters (11.32 second), 200 (22.95) and 400 (52.01).

Other event winners were: Joel Ibarra won the 800 (2:19.52), and Maddax Clark captured the 110 high hurdles (18.61).

Solid performances were turned in by Tommy O'Neil (second in 400, 53.03), Jared Moon (second in 800, 2:24.02), Maddox Oliver (second in 1,500, 4:37.30), Landon Hill (second in 300IM, 48.94), Colin Kennedy (second in discus, 97-8), Ben Soles (second in pole vault, 9-60, Drew Pierson (second in long jump, 19-2), and Tryson Wakefield (second in triple jump, 38-1).

On the girls side, Ashley Peterson snagged the win in the 800 (2:30.96) and well as a second in the 200 (29.02). Elizabeth Hosie won the 400 (1:09.78), Kathryn Taggart captured the 300LH (59.49), and Leanne Doman snagged the triple jump in 28-2 while adding a second in the 300LH (1:00.08).

Catalina Slangan won the pole vault at 9-4, while Kaitlyn Doman was second in the 800 (2:45.24), Clara Maldonado was second in the shot put (25-8).

The varsitiy district meet will be held Wednesday, May 12, and Saturday, May 15, at Canby High School. The JV district meet will be held Friday, May 14, at Oregon City.

Wednesday's field events get started at 2 p.m. with running event prelims starting at 5 p.m. The finals of the 3,000 begin at 8:15 p.m. Saturday's field events begin at 10 a.m. with running event finals beginning at 3 p.m.
