Canby High baseball finishes off the shortened season with wins over Putnam and Beaverton in non-league action

A successful week ushered the Canby High baseball team out of its shortened 2021 season. The Cougars went 2-1 on the week, finishing with a 9-2 win over Putnam on May 18, and a 4-1 win over Beaverton on May 19 in a pair of non-league clashes. These followed a 5-4 loss to Reynolds on May 17.

In Tuesday's win over Putnam, Joey Gartrell was on fire on the mound, striking out 15 batters in six innings of work.

Bryce Oliver was equally "en fuego" in the batter's box, going 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs to go with a triple and a double. In all, he knocked in six runs in the win.

In the season finale against Beaverton, Kellan Oakes and Joe Brauckmiller combined pitching chores to give up one run while striking out 12. Again, Oliver led the offensive effort with a 2-for-4 day that included a home run and 3 RBIs.

Canby finished the year at 3-8 in league play, 8-9 overall.
