The boys and girls squads will host separate tournaments outdoors on the turf the weekend of June 4-5

The Canby High wrestling program is off and running with plenty of action. The team had some nice success during the May 21 four-team scramble at West Linn.

The Cougar boys team highlighted the event with a 30-30 tiebreaker win over the host Lions. Seniors Nick Marquez, Juan Vargas, and Kaden Boyd went undefeated in the tournament.

"While many rosters in the Three Rivers League are reduced due to the pandemic, Canby's roster remains strong with 32 boys and 10 girls on the team," coach Jeremy Ensrud said. "Our girls program has also gotten off to a great start with senior Havlyn Ehrich taking a leadership role."

The girls team will host its first-ever girls wrestling showcase event on Friday, June 4, beginning at 5 p.m. against teams from Century, Hillsboro, and David Douglas. The boys team will follow that up by hosting Aloha, Lakeridge, Lake Oswego, St. Helens, and Woodburn on Saturday, June 5.

"Both of these events are expected to take place outdoors on the turf – weather permitting," Ensrud said.
