Canby returns to the state football playoff bracket and will test themselves at home in Friday night clash

The Canby Cougars are back in the state football playoff bracket. They enter Friday night's game against visiting Lebanon as the fourth seed in the Class 5A bracket.

In 13th seed Lebanon, the Cougars (7-2) will face a team with a 4-5 overall record and some interesting results against teams Canby has played as well.

COURTESY PHOTO: SARAH OLIVER - The Canby High football team will host a Class 5A football game Friday night at 7 p.m. when Lebanon comes calling.

Both have played top seed Wilsonville during the season – Lebanon in the opener where they lost 42-19, and Canby in the season finale where they were waylaid by a 38-12 score. Though Lebanon lost by 23 and Canby by 25, the nearly two-month gap between the games might as well be from different seasons. The two teams also share common opponents in West Albany and Dallas. Canby's loss to West Albany was much closer, but Lebanon had the bigger margin of victory over the Dragons, though those games were also separated by nearly two months.

Interestingly, if either team was able to put a couple wins together, waiting for them in the semifinals would likely be top-seeded Wilsonville for a rematch. The other top seeds on the opposite bracket are Silverton (second) and West Albany (third).

Game time Friday night (Nov. 5) is 7 p.m.
