Both the boys and girls swim well in dual meet with Tigard, winning both sides and looking to keep improving

Swim season got started Thursday, Dec. 9, when Canby hosted Tigard at the Canby Swim Center.

The Cougars proved too much for the Tigers, winning all but one race on their way to wins on both the boys (114-53) and girls (115-54) side.

Canby's girls started the meet winning the 200-medley relay with Allison Yancy, Amanda Yancey, Avery Keinonen and Kali Mull swimming to a time of 1 minute, 56.35 seconds. Kali also finished first in the 200 free and 500 free.

Allison and Amanda Yancey finished first and second in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, respectively. Kennedy Hester was first in the 50 and 100 free, Avery Keinonen was first in the 100 fly and 100 back, and in the 200 free relay, Hester, Keinonen, Ali Parsons and Faith Mason swam to a first place.

In the final race for the girls, the 400 free relay, Mull, Allison Yancey, Amanda Yancey and Hester finished first again.

Canby's boys would have plenty of positive moments as well.

In the 200-medley relay, Jack Hayhurst, Kai Laitinen, Brandon Slater and Jamison Chard finished first in a time of 1:52.38.

Isaac Beck won both the 200 free and 500 free, Jack Hayhurst was first in the 200 IM and 100 back, Connor DeRisio swam to first in the 50 free and 100 fly, and Hunter DeRisio was first in the 100 free.

The 200 free relay of Hunter DeRisio, Beck, Brandon Slater and Connor DeRisio also swam to first place.

In the final race of the meet, the 400 free relay, Hunter DeRisio, Connor DeRisio, Beck and Jack Hayhurst came away with first place.

Up next will be Lake Oswego at Canby on Dec. 16 at 4 p.m.
