Cougar wrestlers take care of Woodburn and Hood River Valley to open 2021-22 season on a good note

Canby High's wrestling season got off to a nice start with a 59-20 dual meet win over Woodburn on Dec. 8.

Matthew Young got things rolling at 106 pounds with a fall at 1:26 and the Cougars were off and running. Also recording wins were Brady Froyd at 113 (technical fall, 19-4, 5:27); Craig Williams at 120 (fall 1:27), Ty Ewers at 126 (fall 0:27); Landon Sprague at 132 (fall 1:26); Thomas Marquez (fall 0:24); Peter Sansone at 152 (fall 2:44); Ethan Ensrud (fall 0:54); Jackson Doman at 170 (fall 0:38): and Cash Montgomery at 182 (fall 0:21).

"We had dominant dual meet wins over Woodburn and Hood River high schools, two schools in our proposed 5A league next year. Nine of our 10 wins were by pin (against Woodburn)," coach Jeremy Ensrud said.

Also on hand for the match was Hood River Valley, which Canby took care of by a 51-9 score.

Sprague recorded a 6-2 decision at 132, Zach Netter added a fall (3:53) at 145 pounds, followed by wins from Sansone at 152, Ensrud at 160, Doman at 170, and Montgomery at 182. Matthew Hagen added a win at 220 pounds, while Colin Kennedy snagged a pin at 285 (0:34).
