Boys get off to 4-0 start while the girls squad opens the young season with a 1-1 record as tourneys beckon.

Canby boys 4-0

The Canby High boys basketball team is off to a 4-0 start to the 2021-22 season.

The Cougars opened the season with an 82-58 win over visiting Sandy, then added a 77-68 home win over Southridge on Dec. 8 and a 66-41 road win at McNary on Dec. 10. The Cougars rounded out the week with a 63-46 over visiting South Salem on Dec. 14.

The Cougars will play in the Lakeridge tournament Dec. 17-19, then host their own Canby Tournament Dec. 28-29.The Herald-Pioneer.

Canby girls 1-1

The Canby girls hoops squad is off to a 1-1 start, having lost to Nelson in the season opener on Dec. 3 by a 38-36 count, but bounced back on Dec. 10 for a 51-37 win over North Salem. Against Nelson, coach Ingrid McCoy called it a "good team effort," and noted that point guard Allie Mead led the team offensively.

Against North Salem, Kayley Borntrager, Mead and RayAnne Schedler each chipped in with eight points on the night.

The Cougars open play in the three-day Lake Oswego Shootout on Dec. 18, then add the Pacific Office Automation Holiday classic, another three-day outing, beginning Dec. 28.
