Lexi Zuriaga battles her way through the bracket to earn one of 12 slots to the Feb. 24 girls state tournament

The Canby High girls wrestling program earned a single berth to the state tournament during the Special District Northwest tournament over the weekend.

Lexli Zuriaga snagged one of the 12 berths to state at 170 pounds with a third place finish at the tournament.

Zuriaga opened the tournament with a pin in 31 seconds, but fell by pin in the semifinals, which thrust her into consolation action. There, she won by fall in 28 seconds and then snagged third place at the finish with a fall in 2:29 over Arianna Boyd of Sunset.

"We are very proud of Lexli and we are hoping she can be Canby's first girls state placer," coach Jeremy Ensrud said.

The girls state tournament will be held Feb. 24 at Culver High School.
