The Cougars, after a 3-game losing streak, rattles off a pair of wins in victories over Lakeridge, LO

A three-game losing streak is in the rear-view mirror for the Canby High softball team. The Cougars (5-3 in league, 15-5 overall) now sit tied for second in the Three Rivers League with a handful of games to go.

Canby took care of Lake Oswego by a 12-2 score on May 9 as the offense was clicking on all cylinders, according to coach Ty Kraft.

Natalie Just got things going in the first with a one-run single. In all, the Cougars collected seven hits, with Ava Carroll and Just providing two each. They chased the LO starting pitcher after three innings as they scored eight runs in the first three frames.

On the mound, Abigail Loomis went five strong innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five.

The Cougars got a pitching gem and a huge play on the bases to snag a key 1-0 win over Lakeridge on May 4.

In the bottom of the eighth-inning, with the score knotted at 0-0, Ava Carroll provided the difference with a walk-off steal of home for the win.

Loomis was stellar on the mound, going the distance and allowing only two hits while striking out 15 on the night.

"The pitching was strong on both sides," Kraft noted.

Carroll went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Canby offense and the defense was solid with no errors. Ella Kiehl made the most plays in the game with 15.

Canby has four more league games to play and finish the season on May 19 with a non-leaguer against Southridge.
