Emergency declaration now goes through June 30 but doesn't declare public health emergency

The Clackamas County Board of Commissioners has extended its emergency declaration to June 30 without going so far as to declare a public health emergency. The declaration, initially made on March 2, was only supposed to last through March 16.

The county is enacting the following measures:

>Prohibiting or limiting the number of people that can gather or congregate on any public street, public place or any outdoor place within the area designated as an emergency area;

>Commit to mutual aid agreements;

>Redirect funds for emergency use;

>Order other measures that are found to be immediately necessary for the protection of life and/or property.

This declaration enables the county to seek out added resources from the state to deal with effects of COVID-19. It also allows the county to streamline resources and staffing and establish emergency policies and protocols. Additionally, it may allow the county to recoup financial costs associated with the emergency response.

At the same time, the county is looking for personal equipment for public health professionals that are treating individuals tested for the virus.

"This will enable us to take the necessary steps to protect the health of our community," said Clackamas County Chair Jim Bernard. "Our emergency Operations Center is working closely with first responders, medical professionals and others involved in our community to ensure a coordinated response."

The county has and continues to work with public health officials from the state as well as Multnomah and Washington counties to address the recent incidents of COVID-19.
