Oregon City leads in total number of cases; both trail compared to state's worst areas

Canby continues to have the greatest number of COVID-19 cases per capita in Clackamas County, according to Oregon Health Authority's latest weekly report, released on Wednesday, July 8.

During the week of June 29 to July 5, according to the report, Canby's case count rose to 127, which is 56 cases per 10,000 people or 0.56% of the ZIP code's population.

The number is largely due to an outbreak at the Marquis at Hope Village Post-Acute Rehab care facility in Canby, which was first reported on June 4 and which OHA still considers active. There are 112 cases associated with the facility, making it the largest active outbreak at a care facility in the state and the second largest outbreak at a care facility since the pandemic began.

The largest outbreak at a care facility was at Healthcare at Foster Creek in Multnomah County in March and April. That outbreak is now considered resolved.

Even though Canby has the highest cases per capita in the county, Oregon City has surpassed Canby in number of cases, with 137. Still its cases per capita is lower, with 26.7 per 10,000 people or o.27% of the ZIP code's population.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise statewide, Canby has dropped significantly to now having the 20th most cases of any ZIP code in Oregon and the 21st most cases per 10,000 people.

In the last week, per OHA's report, there were 11 deaths and 1,910 new cases in Oregon out of 32,355 tests.

Nearby Woodburn continues to have higher rates than any Clackamas County city with 325 cases, which is 112.8 per 10,000 or 1.1% of the ZIP code's population.

Hermiston currently has the highest number of cases in Oregon with 474 cases, which is 187 per 10,000 people or 1.9% of the ZIP code's population.

Of Hermiston's cases, many are associated with current and past workplace outbreaks, including a past outbreak at Medelez Trucking with 31 cases and a current outbreak at Lamb Weston with 115 associated cases. There have been no outbreaks at a care facility in Hermiston.

The Newport/Yaquina ZIP code has the highest cases per capita in the state with its 298 cases amounting to 277.4 cases per 10,000 or 2.8% of the population.

A large number of the cases there are associated with an active workplace outbreak at Pacific Seafood with 181 associated cases. There were no previous workplace outbreaks in Newport nor any outbreaks at a care facility.
