Trent Lucas was apprehended after breaking into a home, removing his clothes, and washing himself in the bathroom

Prineville man, Trent Lucas, was taken into custody on burglary charges Monday evening, following a bizarre set of circumstances leading up to his arrest.

Prineville police responded to a call around 8 p.m. from residents on Southeast Garner Street who said a man had entered their home, and fled after confronting a male occupant.

Officers subsequently searched the surrounding neighborhood, finally locating him in an unoccupied home two doors down from the initial intrusion. Lucas did not obey police orders to exit the home, prompting officers to enter the premises. Once inside, they found Lucas, who had stripped off most of his clothes and was attempting to wash himself in the bathroom.

“It’s very rare,” said Prineville Police Captain Michael Boyd. “Classically, when someone is in someone else’s house, taking off their clothes and stuff, it’s a huge red flag.”

Boyd noted that the weird behavior left open the possibility that Lucas could reach for a gun, a knife, or another object in the home with the intent to fight back. But, that wasn’t the only problem officers faced.

“When they strip off their clothes and are covered in soap and shampoo, they’re pretty hard to get a hold of,” Boyd said.

Making matters more difficult, Lucas was so strong, it took a prolonged struggle with four officers and shooting him with a taser gun to finally subdue him and put him in handcuffs.

Lucas was found to be in possession of methamphetamine as well as stolen checks. Whether he was under the influence of a controlled substance remains unknown, although Boyd noted it was a possibility.

“We have dealt with this guy before and he has had some erratic behavior in the past,” he said.

Lucas was booked and lodged in the Crook County Jail on multiple charges including Burlary, Criminal Tresspass, Assault of a Peace Officer, and Unlawful Possession of of Methamphetamine. His bail was set at $57,000. The case remains under investigation.
