Local man victim of potential homicide
Local law enforcement is investigating a potential homicide that took the life of a Prineville man in the Juniper Acres subdivision Thursday morning.
According to reports, on Thursday morning at about 11:30 a.m., deputies from the Crook County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at a Southeast Myrtlewood Lane residence in the rural subdivision. Deputies were able to locate a deceased male on the property with suspicious injuries. He was later identified as 51-year-oldl Dennis Allen Stewart.
Authorities initially ruled the incident a suspicious death. The Central Oregon Major Crime Team was activated and an investigation was launched involving the Crime Team as well as Crook County Sheriff's Office, Crook County District Attorney's Office and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab.
After investigating the matter through Thursday night, authorities announced Friday that Stewart was the victim of a homicide. A person of interest has been contacted and interviewed, and at this time authorities do not believe there is any threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing and no arrest has been made. No other information on the case was disclosed.
