Prineville man sustains head injury in ATV crash
A Prineville man was seriously Saturday evening in an ATV accident about 12 miles southeast of town.
Crook County Sheriffs' Office and Crook County Fire and Rescue responded to the accident scene on Southeast Prairie Schooner Road around 8:30 p.m.
During the investigation, the deputy learned that 53-year-old Robert Smith had left his private property on his four-wheel ATV and onto Prairie Schooner Road, accelerating rapidly. He lost control of the ATV and was ejected off the quad.
Smith was not wearing a helmet or protective gear and sustained a serious head injury, authorities said. He was initially transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Hospital in Prineville, where he was transferred from the ambulance directly into an AirLink helicopter and transported to St. Charles Hospital in Bend.
The crash is still under investigation, however speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to the crash. There was no patient update at the time of the media release.
The Crook County Sheriff's Office would like to remind you to always wear protective gear and a helmet when operating your ATV.
