The body of Jim Heggie was discovered Sunday morning in the area of northwest Ochoco Creek

TERESA TOOLEY/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Members of the Crook County Search and Rescue team located the body of 56-year-old Jim Garner Heggie in the area of northwest Ochoco Creek Sunday morning.

A Prineville man who had been reported missing Saturday morning was found deceased Sunday morning in Prineville.

At 9:40 a.m. Aug. 5, members of the Crook County Search and Rescue team located the body of 56-year-old Jim Garner Heggie in the area of northwest Ochoco Creek, according to a media release from the Prineville Police Department.

"Heggie was located in an area of Ochoco Creek that is difficult to access and covered by vegetation, making his discovery difficult," Sgt. James Peterson stated. "The investigation revealed no evidence of suspicious or criminal activity."

The investigation revealed that Heggie was walking home from the downtown area and slipped or fell into a steep portion of Ochoco Creek. The exact cause of death is uncertain, but drowning and/or possible medical complications after the fall are likely, the release states.

Age, mobility and alcohol may have been a factor as Heggie was last seen leaving a drinking establishment in the area of North Main Street on Friday, Aug. 3 at about 8:30 p.m. Heggie was reported as missing the following morning about 15 hours later.

The results of this investigation revealed Heggie likely died soon after leaving the downtown area as he was headed home.

"Prineville Police would like to thank Crook County Sheriff's Office and SAR members for their assistance with locating Heggie," Peterson stated. "We would also like to thank citizens and family members who responded and provided information for this case."
