Prineville man facing child abuse charges arrested
A Prineville man facing child abuse charges was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a two-month investigation involving his own twin children.
Justin Michael Viescas, age 26, was arrested around 2 p.m. on a confirmed Crook County warrant following a grand jury indictment on two counts of third-degree assault and two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment. His bail was set at $15,000.
According to local authorities, police launched an investigation on July 18 regarding child abuse at a Northwest Fifth Street residence. Police learned that twin 43-day-old children had suffered multiple fractures. The two infants were both inspected at St. Charles Prineville and at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, and the medical conclusion indicated the injuries were caused by non-accidental trauma.
Prineville police were assisted by the Oregon State Police, Portland and Ontario divisions, and Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare.
Police reported that soon after the booking process, Viescas posted his 10 percent bail ($1,500) and was released.
