Equipment stolen after Friday's action; two suspects caught, and gear returned in time for Saturday

A Prineville man and Terrebonne teen were charged in connection with the theft of digital equipment at the Crooked River Roundup.

The theft of the equipment and advertising banners was reported around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a Prineville Police Department report. The type of equipment stolen included two Canon H1 cameras, one Canon 105 camera, a black case containing microphones and other digital equipment, two 32-inch TV monitors, a Clear Coms Communication system, and other digital equipment. The equipment was valued at more than $18,000.

Crooked River Roundup reported on its Facebook page that the items were stolen from the announcer stand early that morning. Roundup personnel offered a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Police report that around 4 p.m. that same day, a 17-year-old male Terrebonne resident and an 18-year-old Prineville resident — whose names were not disclosed — were charged with first-degree aggravated theft and second and third-degree criminal mischief. Both subjects cooperated fully with the investigation, which allowed officers and detectives to get the equipment back for Saturday night's rodeo show.

All of the stolen items were returned, according to authorities. During the theft, several banners were damaged along with 2 monitors, but all other equipment was returned in working order.

Through the investigation police determined that alcohol may have played a role in the decision-making of the two subjects involved. Besides facing criminal charges, they are facing possible sanctions by the Crooked River Roundup Board for violations of the Code of Conduct. According to a post on the Prineville Police Department Facebook page, one, if not both of the suspects were part of the junior portion of the rodeo

Police thanked those who assisted with this investigation, saying it was truly a team effort.
