The Picnic in the Park summer music series kicked off Wednesday with a performance by Precious Byrd

LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Lead Singer Corey Parnell of Precious Byrd belts out a song. Lead Guatar player Derek Williams is in the background, while Bassist Lonnie Chapin moves to the music.

LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Lonnie Chapin, a Bend High School graduate strums the bass.Picnic in the Park, the summer music series at Pioneer Park, kicked off Wednesday evening with a high-energy performance by Precious Byrd, which played a wide variety of dance tunes and cover songs that had the crowd up and boogie-ing.

LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Saxophone player Andy Warr belts out a tune.The community event is organized and presented by the Crook County Foundation, in partnership with local businesses. Next Wednesday it's Joe Shinkle & 99 West, a country band. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. So, pack a picnic and head out.
