A Prineville man was arrested for DUII following an early Sunday morning crash on Powell Butte Highway.
According to a Crook County Sheriff's Office report, the crash was reported just before 4 a.m., on Powell Butte Highway near mile post 5. Upon arrival, responding deputies learned that a Chevrolet Suburban driven by 28-year-old Shawn Bates, of Prineville, was traveling toward Powell Butte when he drove the vehicle off the road as he had fallen asleep. The Suburban subsequently flipped onto it driver's side and came to a rest in the southbound lane of the highway. Bates suffered lacerations to his left arm due to the crash.
Based on the crash investigation and the contact with Bates, he was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants. His vehicle was towed due to damages.
Bates' blood alcohol content was found to be .09 percent by weight, authorities reported. He was transported via patrol vehicle to St. Charles, Prineville, for a medical evaluation and he was cited in lieu of custody for DUII.
