Prineville man killed in Thursday evening crash
A Prineville man was killed in a two-vehicle collision on O'Neil Highway in Deschutes County Thursday evening.
According to a report from Oregon State Police, the crash occurred around 6:40 p.m., near milepost 2, on Highway 370, just east of Highway 97. A preliminary investigations revealed that a Chevy Impala driven by 43-year-old Prineville resident Matthew Herrera was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control on a corner and slid sideways into the westbound lane. The Impala collided with a westbound GMC pickup driven by 37-year-old Prineville man Aaron Ruhl.
Herrera sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Ruhl and his passenger, 32-year-old Prineville woman Jessica Heggie, were transported to St. Charles Hospital for injuries.
Oregon State Police was assisted by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, Redmond Fire and Rescue, and ODOT. The accident closed the highway between milepost 2 and milepost 5 until nearly 11 p.m.
