As we share our material blessings with the community, let us also share the source of our blessing, the Lord Jesus Christ

CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Carl AdkinsIn just short two weeks, we will enter into the holiday season 2019. We will see a distinct change in our moods, our dispositions and our attitudes. We will be happier and we will treat each other better. We will have more patience with each other. We will be more loving and caring toward our family, friends and even total strangers. It is a very special time of year.

As we get closer to the holiday season, we will start thinking about reaching out to the communities less fortunate. We will want to first think about families who might not have enough for that big Thanksgiving dinner. So, we will start contributing to fill those big food boxes. We will see to it that every box will have that turkey or a nice ham. We will be sure each box has all the trimmings, especially the sweet "taters" my personal favorite. And it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the pies.

As soon as Thanksgiving is over, we will immediately turn our attention to Christmas. Just as we did for Thanksgiving, we will make sure everyone has that wonderful holiday dinner. However, at Christmas we will also want to be sure that the little children all have something nice for Christmas morning.

Now all these things are to be commended. In the Word of God, 1 John 3:16-18, it says, "By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world's goods, and sees a brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth." (NKJV)

Now these practices should not be reserved for the holiday season only, but year-round. Our happiness and joy should not be limited to the holidays. Our joy comes through our relationship with Jesus. We should give thanks to Jesus, and we need to remember that Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season.

So, as we share our material blessings with the community, let us also share the source of our blessing the Lord Jesus Christ. It is much more important to feed their spirit than their flesh. Our help is temporal, but Jesus's help is eternal.

GOD BLESS
