Timothy Leahy Jr. crosses lanes of traffic on Highway 97 in Bend, striking driver

A Prineville man was arrested for driving under the influence and reckless driving following a crash at the north end of Bend Tuesday morning.

According to Bend police, a black Jeep Wrangler driven by 32-year-old Prineville resident Timothy Leahy Jr. was traveling southbound on Highway 97 near Grandview Drive at about 7 a.m. when he crossed all lanes of travel and struck a northbound silver Honda Accord driven by 30-year-old Bend man Joseph Soto. Once the Jeep struck the Honda, the Jeep rolled and blocked the northbound lanes of travel for approximately 45 minutes.

Bend police responded to the scene and the agency was assisted by the Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Transportation. Bend medics arrived on scene and treated the drivers for non-life threatening injuries. Leahy Jr. was arrested for DUII-drugs and reckless driving and was taken to the Deschutes County Jail.

Police added that the same Jeep Wrangler was called in as a possible intoxicated or sleepy driver at 5:24 a.m. at Northwest 43rd Street and Lower Bridge Way, however deputies and troopers had been unable to locate the vehicle.
