What are you most thankful for?
During this Thanksgiving season we often think about what we are thankful for. The list is long and may include things you own, where you live, family members and friends. One of the most important things to be thankful for is the love we share with others. Isn't it nice to know that we are loved by others? Unfortunately, there are those who don't feel much love from others and life without love from others is hard. So what can be done about that?
It's not an easy answer but here are some things to think about:
Are we giving love to others through our words and actions before expecting those same kind of words and actions to be given to us?
Are we willing to forgive others' mistakes?
We need to realize our own mistakes and ask for forgiveness.
We need to be good listeners, which may mean better concentration on our part.
Another part of listening is to be slow to get angry.
We need to give compliments often for the good things we see in others without expecting compliments in return.
We need to show honor and respect to people.
To family and spouses, we need to show affection.
The Golden Rule always seems to help: "Do unto others as you would have others do to you." All people need to understand that the amount they love others directly effects the amount that others love them. Blessings come from giving, not always from receiving.
The most important thing to remember is how much we are loved by God. We live in a very imperfect world, but the future is bright for all who believe in God and what He did for us through His Son Jesus. Giving love and being loved is something to be very thankful for. Knowing how much we are loved by God is the greatest blessing of all.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
