Website story view suggest what news events caught the most attention from readers

Regular readers of the Central Oregonian likely know that at the end of each year, we publish a year in review story, recapping some of the biggest news stories or events as decided by the newspaper staff.

Typically presented in a top-10 format, the story summarizes each of the news stories or events and provides some context regarding why the incidents we reported on had such impact and stood out among the hundreds of news stories published throughout the year.

This year, we did the same. However, we put together the recap with knowledge of additional data that suggests readers considered other stories more compelling. Geoff Pursinger, of Pamplin Media Group, utilized Google Analytics to compile a list of the most viewed stories of the year on the Central Oregonian's website. While a couple of the stories in the digital top 10 can be found in the print edition year in review list, most of the stories are not.

Here are the stories that readers of our online content visited most this year.
