Sarah Beauchamp was born in Clark County, Illinois, on Sept. 10, 1850. Her parents brought the family across the plains in 1852 when she was 2 years old. They settled near Hillsboro in Oregon Territory. Sarah grew up in the vicinity. She met H.B. Williams and when she was 16 years old, she married him on June 24, 1866. They had four children.

It is not known what happened to Mr. Williams, but he appears to have ceased to be a part of the family. Sarah later met Robert H. Dedman. He was born near Knoxville, Tennessee on June 26, 1847. He had come to the John Day River near what is now Twickenham with his parents in 1867. The family was among the earliest to settle in the region. Sarah and Robert were married on June 13, 1877. They lived for a few years on a ranch near Corral Mountain in the vicinity of Rowe Creek. They had two daughters.

In 1885, they moved to the Shoofly district near Richmond and operated a ranch. They raised mostly sheep and some cattle. They lived there for several years and then bought a ranch just north of Richmond. They lived there until 1912, when they moved to Mitchell. Sarah was active in the Methodist Church. She was well known in the Richmond and Mitchell communities.

Robert died on Aug. 2, 1924 and was buried in the Richmond Cemetery. Sarah lived on for several years and was active in local social organizations. Sarah passed away on Nov. 18, 1934. She is buried beside Robert in the Richmond Cemetery.
