The video was a huge success and put the spotlight on last year's shining stars in the community

PHOTO SUBMITTED BY KIM DANIELS - The 2019 Annual Chamber Awards were presented by video because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our community is built on heart and character," are the words that preempt the recent release of the 2019 Prineville-Crook County Chamber Awards video.

The video was released last week on the Prineville-Crook County Chamber of Commerce Facebook website.

The introduction went on to say, "Even though we didn't get to award our winners at a banquet this year, this project highlighted the people and businesses that make this an amazing community to live in. Congratulations to all!"

The video was a huge success and put the spotlight on last year's shining stars in the community. Despite COVID-19 and the resulting challenges, Prineville-Crook County Chamber Director Kim Daniels and her board found a way to recognize these fine folks.

"Originally, we were just going to postpone the awards," said Daniels.

It soon became apparent that it would be more than a postponement. Daniels said they considered several options, but things did not change with restrictions and social distancing.

"COVID-19 kept going, and we were realizing that we may not even get back to events — period, and so rather than drag it out, we were trying to figure out how to do it and what to do," she added.

Daniels said they still had budget funds set aside, and after brainstorming with her board, they made the decision to create a video to highlight their winners. The video was produced by Ellen Morningstar of Morningstar films, and released last week. The winners were notified ahead of time to obtain footage for the video release.

"I was excited, because I wanted to do a video before everything hit (Pandemic), for the Chamber," said Daniels.

She initially didn't want to just do an awards video, but they really wanted to highlight their winners. This year, they added the Best New Business to Prineville Award.

"I think it's really important and cool because we are getting so many new businesses."
