Offering an eclectic assortment of gifts
Somerli Mclain did not plan on taking on a new business when she went to the former Mountain Girls Designs to look at fixtures upon their closure.
"Mountain Girls Designs was closing their doors in May. I went in there looking for fixtures and things like that, and ended up buying her store from her," said Mclain, who currently owns Sweet Willow and Company.
"I didn't go in there thinking I was going to buy a store, but I did. It just worked out and everything kind of fell into place. I am super excited."
Mclain opened Sweet Willow and Company in June 2020, located at 233 N.W. Third Street in Prineville. She has four other vendors that lease space in her boutique, including The Rustic Hammer, Two Gifty Girls, Willow Wild and Violet Sage Jewelry. In addition, BoBo's Bistro is also located inside, and owned and operated by Ashley Morgan. They offer sandwiches, pastries, and a variety of coffee drinks — including Morning Joe Coffee.
Everywhere that the eyes can see, there is a fun variety of gift ideas to choose from. There is also a corner dedicated to baby clothing and gifts. There are candles, gourmet foods, local-made jewelry, and a recently opened clothing section from Willow Wild, which also has a boutique in Redmond.
Prior to opening Sweet Willow and Company, Mclain owned three other businesses, including her current business in Redmond, the Maple Moon Boutique.
"I used to do bizarres and events," she said of her beginnings as a business owner.
She began doing that 17 years ago. Mclain found she needed a permanent shop of her own where she could do what she loved. She first opened Maple Moon Boutique before recently opening Sweet Willow and Company.
The eclectic store offers home décor, clothing, jewelry, gourmet foods and gifts, as well as a mini sweet chocolate shop in her current location. She previously also owned a sweet shop for three years, so chocolates are one of her passions.
The outside space still offers atmosphere and gift ideas. The last two spaces that were in the current space that is now Sweet Willow and Company offered an outside garden area.
"We have the café in here, but we also have an outdoor seating area for people who want to meet for coffee or pasties outside. It's like a one-stop little shop," added Mclain.
