The Grocery Outlet of Prineville will soon be welcoming new owners.

Lambert and Rhonda Bourgo will be taking ownership of the Prineville store on Nov. 3. The store, located on Northeast Third Street in Prineville, was previously owned by Carl and Sharon Shaver.

"What incredible owners Carl and Sharon Shaver have been for the last 14 years," exclaimed Rhonda Bourgo. "We are incredibly honored to be taking on a store that has done so much for so many years."

Lambert has 17 years of experience as a district manager for Safeway grocery stores and has 30 years total of grocery experience. Rhonda has eight years of grocery experience before she stayed at home to be with her young children.

"Combined, we have about 35 years' worth of grocery business behind us before we went to Grocery Outlet," pointed out Rhonda. "We are hoping as people come in, they will see 35 years of grocery experience."

The couple have owned the Grocery Outlet in Madras three years, which recently sold. They took ownership of that store when it was brand new in April 2017. There are five Grocery Outlet stores in Central Oregon and one in Burns.

"Each store is independently owned and operated, with the support of Grocery Outlet," added Lambert. "It's a very unique business model. It's not really a business model that anybody else has developed."

Currently, they are inventorying the store in Madras and also finishing the inventory in Prineville. The sale will be final in Prineville first, with the Madras store following soon after. As new owners, Ronda and Lambert are looking forward to getting involved in the community.

"We are excited to get out there," said Rhonda. "With COVID, it's so difficult because normally, we would be going to events and meeting people—which is what I love to do."

She added that they are both involved in the running of the store, but they are going to step into the program that Shaver already has in place and learn how Prineville is run and operated – and blend how they run things and how the previous owners did things.

She noted that there are quite a few similarities between the Madras and Prineville communities, but also with some differences. She indicated Prineville has a lot more families with deep roots, which she and Lambert really like.

"That's the kind of thing I think that communities are missing a lot of anymore. We are just looking forward to being a part of something is as long-standing as that."

She added that they look forward to being a part of all of the community involvement where people get together to help out. She went on to say that their goals for the Prineville Outlet are to bump up the wine department and bring in more natural organic specialty and healthy (NOSH).

"We are going to bump that up in the store and really focus on getting that a higher priority," she said of the NOSH inventory.

She said that when they go into a new area, they ask locals where they shop, why they shop there, and what would they like to see at a Grocery Outlet. She added that gluten-free is something that has come up a great deal.

"We are excited about just getting in and being part of the community," concluded Rhonda.
