Local man injured after vehicle collides with tree
A Prineville man was injured after his vehicle collided with a tree on North McKay Creek Road early Monday morning.
The crash, which happened near milepost 8, was reported just before 6 a.m. and according to the 911 call, the driver, 42-year-old Shawn Solar, was trapped inside the vehicle and injured.
Upon arrival, Crook County deputies saw a black 1999 Ford F150 off the roadway where it had collided head on with a large juniper tree. Solar was still inside the truck and had visible injuries to his head.
By the time medics from Crook County Fire and Rescue arrived on scene, Solar was able to self-extricate from the truck. Medics evaluated Solar and subsequently transported him to St. Charles Medical Center-Prineville with non-life threatening injuries.
A crash investigation revealed that Solar was traveling south on North McKay Creek Road near milepost 8 when his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons, traveled through a barbed wire fence and crashed into a juniper tree. At the time of the crash, Solar was not wearing his seatbelt. He was issued a citation for various traffic violations. Speed and alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.
