New mobile gift card program sponsored by Chamber is simple way to give back to community, keep local dollars local

CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Kim DanielsPrineville and Crook County has a long history of rising above and overcoming challenges. As always, when all of us work together, great things can happen. This is our home, the residents here are our neighbors, and the survival of our small local businesses is our responsibility.

As we searched for innovative ways to grow our members' businesses, and spark some recovery from the pandemic and build community, we were excited to find a new program that that would benefit both consumers and our local retailers.

Introducing the Shop Prineville e-Card. Consumers can purchase the Shop Prineville e-Card as a gifts or for self-use, and companies can use it for employee rewards, anniversary gifts, customer appreciation, or simply to be an extension of a shop local theme. With this card, you can write a personal message and send it to family, friends and colleagues via email, text, or even print off a paper copy. Recipients can choose to spend it at one of participating merchants in Prineville — or mix it up and spend flexibly at multiple participating locations. The dollars stay local and benefit our retailers, restaurants, co-ops and attractions in Prineville and Crook County. Now you can give back to our community while you shop!

Why supporting local businesses is so important

Participating in this program means supporting the heart of what makes our community unique. The purchase of a Shop Prineville eGift Card creates a pool of cash that local businesses in Prineville can rely on. For every $100 you spend at locally owned businesses, approximately $68 will stay in the community. More dramatically, restaurants recirculate almost 75% of their funds back into the community, versus only 30% for large national chains.

By supporting local businesses, more money continues circulating through the local community — this is achieved through a combination of profits paid to local business owners, wages paid to local workers, goods and services procured locally for internal use or resale, and charitable giving within the community. If you are looking for a way to do some good or want to know how you can help the community you love, send a Shop Prineville E-Card or if you are a business, contact us to sign on to the program today.
