Three hundred twelve pairs of silk hose, the greater number of which were ladies' hosiery, two dozen pair of suspenders, sewing thread, and bias tape were taken from a merchandise car that reached Prineville Tuesday morning. These good coming from Seattle were the only contents of the car. It was not until the car reached the City of Prineville railway station, Tuesday morning, and was opened that the goods were missed. Spools of thread and tape were seen strewn about the car. Outside wrappers were taken but the inside boxes which contained the hose, were left in the car.

Fines of $50 and jail terms of 10 days were imposed Monday afternoon on the parents of two Ochoco grade school boys who have failed to attend school regularly this year. The parents of the boys appeared before Justice of the Peace Percy R Smith at the courthouse and entered pleas of guilty to the charges filed by school officials.

The fines and jail terms that were imposed were the maximum penalties under school law, but suspended the sentences with a warning that the fines and jail terms must be faced if the boys continue to be absent from school without a valid excuse.

April 22, 1971 Members of the Crook County Search and Rescue met with Robert Oliver, assistant and legal advisor to Gov. Tom McCall at the capitol on Monday. They presented a petition containing over 400 signatures to the governor and expressed their dissatisfaction with having volunteer search and rescue organizations placed under law enforcement agencies. "What we're doing and what we intend to do in no way reflects on what we think about Don Hanna as sheriff" Ken Long, assistant director of the Crook County group, stated. "We feel that search and rescue is not a law enforcement function. It takes more time than a sheriff of law enforcement agency can give," he said.
