The laws being made today in this country do not necessarily reflect the authority of God

CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Carl AdkinsWe recently celebrated the beginning of our country, the forming of a nation. One nation under God, established on Christian principals. America prospered, grew strong and became the world's greatest nation by following those Christian principals -- liberty, justice and truth, the foundation of our great nation. All of these come to us by the grace of God.

As long as we remembered that, our country grew and prospered because of God and his blessings. We continued to be number one in the world. We based our laws on the Word of God, the Bible. We as a nation realized that the Bible is truth, and that God is sovereign. We know that we have liberty and justice in our country because of God's truth.

In John 17:16-19 NKJV, it says "They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by your truth. Your Word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes, I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by truth."

When decisions, and laws started being made in our country that were not based on the Word of God, even contrary to the scriptures, the gradual decline of America began.

In our day and time, it is evident that not all believe in the sovereignty of God or in the infallibility of God's Word. Our country is no longer governed by a majority of believers. The laws being made today do not necessarily reflect the authority of God. However, whether we agree with the laws being put into place or with the governing body, we are instructed to abide by them unless they be contrary to the Word of God.

It says in Romans 13:1-2 NKJV, "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whoever resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgement on themselves."

So, no matter what we think of the authorities that God has allowed to be installed, we are instructed to abide by them until God allows us to vote them out of office. All we as believers can do is to pray and seek God's wisdom in His Word. We hope and find our peace in our relationship with Jesus Christ.

From a Christian standpoint, everyday seems to bring us closer to God's judgement here in America. Again, from a Christian standpoint, laws are being passed that are an abomination to God, according to His Word. When we see the signs of the times, I see the fulfilling of scripture. We as Christians need to begin to stand up boldly and reclaim "our" country. I am not advocating radical or violent change. I am suggesting that we band together in prayer, we all get out and vote for Christian politicians.

I know we all love our country and want to see it continue to prosper and be strong. God's word tells us in 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 NKJV, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now, My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place." I know God was speaking to Israel, a long time ago, but His Word says Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. What He would do for Israel then He will do for us today.
