Whether he's helping City of Prineville officials with a real estate transaction or fighting for people's property rights in Washington, D.C., Michael Warren II is there.
His commitment to the local realtors association and his involvement with the community has earned Warren the 2018 Realtor of the Year award through the Central Oregon Association of Realtors.
"The realtor brand isn't always well represented — like with any business — and Mike represents our business super well," said Dave Feagans, a principal broker and owner of Alpine Real Estate in Bend, who nominated him for the award. "He's involved in Prineville. He's involved with our association here in Central Oregon."
Warren and five other Central Oregon realtors will be recognized during the EnCOAR ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 at Tetherow in Bend. The public is welcome to attend but must register in advance.
Kim Gammond, the communications and public affairs director for COAR, said they ask for nominations from their 1,900 realtor members in the tri-county area. A committee then reviews the applications and selects the award winners in the six categories.
The selection committee looks at the candidates' involvement in the association and their communities as well as their dedication to the real estate industry. The Realtor of the Year award is not based on real estate sales.
"Mike has served on our board before and is the past president and took a couple years off and decided to go ahead and come back on the board," Gammond said, adding that he has been heavily involved in Crook County and Prineville. "We meet in Bend, and he's always willing to make that drive for us."
Feagans first met Warren when they served on the COAR board together 10 years ago. Since then, Feagans has turned to Warren for advice on real estate contracts, and Warren is always willing and able to lend a hand.
"He's super giving and generous with his time," Feagans said. "He's a good human being, and he gives back. He's giving back without being paid, many times, to the greater good."
Warren's father, who started Crook County Properties, eventually convinced his son to join him.
"Dad's been in it forever, so I've been involved in it," Warren said of the real estate business.
He was the general manager at Beaver Coach but when the plant relocated to Coburg in 2005, he helped with that transition and then moved back to Prineville the following year.
"I decided that I would go ahead and go into real estate since Dad has always bugged me to go into it as far as listing and selling," Warren said.
He obtained his license and joined COAR in January of 2007.
"Central Oregon Association of Realtors has huge benefits for realtors as far as marketing things, MLS and discounts on corporate-wide insurance," Warren said.
Through Crook County Properties, Warren sells residential, commercial and bare land.
"Prineville is a little unique because you do it all," he laughed.
He says he takes a different approach when working with clients.
"My biggest thing is making sure somebody is getting what they want and not just to settle but to really get what they're looking after."
Not only does he list and sell properties, Warren is the realtor of record for both Crook County and the City of Prineville. He's on the Crook County Planning Commission and the Prineville Economic Development for Central Oregon board. He's a member of the Oregon Association of Realtors board, and has been on multiple committees.
Each May, he travels to Washington, D.C., to the National Association of Realtors Legislative Conference, where he represents Oregon with 20 or 30 other Oregon realtors.
"We talk about land use laws, that's the biggest thing, or mortgage interest deduction so we can keep that," he said.
Warren says it's an honor to be chosen as 2018 COAR Realtor of the Year.
"It's good to be recognized out of Prineville for all the additional things I do that relate to real estate but not necessarily how much money you're making or how many sales you've had," he said.
