Prineville McDonald's officially unveiled its newly remodeled restaurant Wednesday, June 20 with a Prineville-Crook County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony.

But unlike most ceremonies, the owner did not cut the bright red ribbon.

Instead, two long-time customers did the honors.

"Dick and Shirley are two of our favorite customers and are friends with most of our team," McDonald's owner Paul Rodby said of the Moffitts.

Dick Moffitt is a retired U.S. Navy Captain, and he and his wife are loyal McDonald's customers.

"They just happened to be there, and I asked them to participate," Rodby said. "They were thrilled to be a part of the celebration!"

Rodby and his wife, Kathy, have owned the fast-food restaurant since it opened in December of 1994. They also own five other McDonald's restaurants, one in Madras, one in Hines and three in Redmond.

Renovation work began at the Prineville location on April 16 and concluded in late May as a way to stay current with the new McDonald's theme of modernization and to make operations more efficient, comfortable, and more accessible for all of its customers.

The remodel included updating and modernizing the exterior with a new accent wall, colors and trim, Rodby said, as well the addition of new drive-thru electronic menu boards. The remodel also features new handicapped-accessible restrooms, seating and decor, lighting, a new Play Place for children, and in-store ordering kiosks.

"The kiosks are one more opportunity for our customers to self-order," Rodby pointed out. "With help from our employees who assist, the customer can choose what they'd like to order and what they want on their sandwich."

"The kiosks allow the customer to take their time when they order. After the order is complete, our production folks prepare the food and deliver the order in sequence," he said. "Our servers will deliver the order directly to the table or prepare it to go."

Typically, the new "hospitality" folks will be the ones who serve the food in the lobby area.

Currently, the Prineville McDonald's has more than 65 employees working this summer. Although they employ a lot of part-time workers, many work full-time.

Rodby said that so far, all of their customers have been extremely positive to all the changes.

"Of course, we thank our entire customer base who were very patient during the entire construction process," he said. "We just are very excited about all the changes and encourage all of Prineville to come in and enjoy a great meal and friendly, fast service!"
