Tiny Bubbles Pet Grooming to host Prineville Perk this Friday, July 5 from 8 to 8:30 a.m.

Prineville is gearing up for Independence Day with a ton of family activities lined up.

The Prineville-Crook County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Old-Fashioned Fourth of July event at Ochoco Creek Park. That celebration will include games, vendors and music, and will be held from 10:30 a.m. through 2 p.m.

Fourth of July events will also take place at other venues.

To get set for the Ochoco Creek event, take in the Eighth Annual Kiwanis Breakfast, which will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. in the City Hall Plaza.

The annual Splash N' Dash, swim, bike, kayak and run is headquartered at the Prineville swimming pool. Registration starts at 7:15 a.m., first swim wave starts at 8 a.m. and the John Marsh Memorial 5k Race starts at 9 a.m. Awards will be at noon.

The Prineville Fourth of July parade will travel down Fourth Street from 10 to 11 a.m.

The City of Prineville Railway will be giving free train rides on its 1966 diesel locomotive every hour starting at 8 a.m. Tickets are required and available at Eventbrite.com. Boarding will be at 3840 Bus Evans Rd.

The Firecracker Bike Ride will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will start and finish at Good Bike Co.

The day will wrap up with the Fourth of July Fireworks display from Ochoco View Point starting at 10 p.m.

The Central Oregonian will be closed Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5.

The Sixth Annual Freedom Aloft Balloon Rally happens at Stryker Park this Friday through Sunday, July 5-7. The free community event is made possible by several local business sponsors. See pages A14 and A15 of today's Central Oregonian for more information on this event.
