Steve and Kim Forrester have owned the franchise for Prineville Subway for 23 years. Subway restaurants are owned and operated by small business owners who operate a neighborhood Subway, with more than 100 countries and 21,000 franchisees represented around the world.

For more than 30 years, each store has baked their own bread in-house. They also strive to use paper packaging with recyclable materials. The Subway chain also inspects their stores once per month, in addition to the required inspections done by environmental health.

Beverly Ball has been the manager of the local Subway for 20 years. She has always worked for the Forresters and loves her job.

She has seen many great changes in Subway over the years, and now there are many ways to place an order — including phone orders, online orders and, of course, in-person orders.

"I enjoy people," said Ball. "I enjoy the kids immensely."

Ball really believes that there is a great value in having youth work there to develop work values and work ethic. She emphasized that learning customer service skills goes beyond work.

"It makes you a better person." She added.

She believes that hiring the youth not only helps them when they go on to school, but it gives them work experience, money handling, and customer service. She added that they always have a good balance of youth and adults on their staff.
