Ron's Comfort Food Cafe has focused on providing quality, filling meals for the past six months

If you like good food and great service, Ron's Comfort Food CafÉ provides a welcoming atmosphere.

Ron Allen took over the restaurant at Meadow Lakes on Feb. 1, 2019.

Breakfast lovers will be pleasantly surprised by the extensive and delicious plate of food, and Ron's Comfort Food CafÉ also serves a breakfast and lunch menu daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days per week.

"We do specials every day for soup. We bake our own hoagie rolls, our own dinner and sub rolls, and we bake our own beef and turkey," said Allen.

He indicated that they buy local beef and produce from Ericksons Thriftway in Prineville.

"We try and keep it as local as we can," Allen emphasized.

They make their own pies and cobblers from scratch. They also bake their ham, turkey and beef.

"We do a lot of stuff that a lot of people don't," he said. "I may be paying a little bit more for this product — the beef, the turkey and hams that I am buying — but it's top-notch product. I am a firm believer that people aren't looking for something for nothing; they just want value for their dollar."

He also believes in good quality service, good food and plenty of it.

"This is what we are basing our business on," added Allen. "We are trying to make it a family atmosphere, as far as employees go."

In the spring, summer and early fall when it stays light longer, they keep their doors open longer. By the end of September, they will close at 5 p.m. He indicated that with their lunch and breakfast menu, they can have any food item on the menu at any time of the day.

Reservations are not necessary, except Sundays.

"Sundays, the business has gone right off the charts, so I highly recommend reservations on Sunday — especially after 11 a.m.," he said. "We have been very blessed and very fortunate. We are getting a lot of community support."

If customers are booking a special event that requires a little more space, Allen also recommends calling to book a reservation for a table ahead of time.

Allen has been in the restaurant business for 22 years. He also has a background in catering for the military. He and his wife had a federal contract doing a traveling catering business for federal troops for four years. They served SWAT teams, police departments, United States Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. They traveled in Oregon, Idaho and Washington.

"It became very near and dear to us," he said of the prior catering business with federal troops. He has a heart for military personnel and their families.

Ron's Comfort Food CafÉ does in-house catering as well. It is recommended to schedule ahead at least two to three months, but no less than two weeks for an event. Sherry Rienks is the director of catering, and can be reached at the same number as the main restaurant.

Allen learned how to cook professionally when working for Denny's, beginning in 1976. It was Denny's third restaurant in Auburn, California. He has also been catering since he was a kid, and he has always loved catering.

Allen smiled when asked what his priorities were for his restaurant.

"Quality food. I actually got in the restaurant business before microwaves, in 1976, third Denny's ever built," said Allen, then adding he'd like to be known for "large portions, the best view in Central Oregon as far as a restaurant goes, and friendly and courteous staff."
