Rustic Roots Salon opened on North Main Street and Wild Soul Boutique is sharing space at the new Prineville location

RAMONA MCCALLISTER - Shonda Russell, left, is the owner of Wild Soul Boutique. She rents a space in the building where Jamie O'Neal, right, started her salon, Rustic Roots. The two hold the same hours and business phone number for convenience, in spite of being two separate businesses.

Jamie O'Neal has always liked hair styling, but she specially likes helping people feel and look their best.

O'Neal opened her hair Salon, Rustic Roots Salon, on July 8, 2019. She is located on North Main Street, just around the block from Cooper Electric.

She shares a space with Shonda Russell of Wild Soul Boutique. They had a joint grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 21.

O'Neal has 13 years of experience doing hair, and this is the second salon she has opened. Her first salon was at Crooked River Ranch.

She has lived in Prineville all of her life.

"I like to make people feel good," indicated O'Neal. "It's something where they always leave feeling their best, and excited about whatever we have done — whether it's a simple cut or a color. It makes them feel good."

She loves the interaction with people all day long.

"I'm very talkative, so it's right up my alley," she added. "That's why I like it — I like to make people feel their best."

Unlike many salons, she also works on Mondays. She just added two new stylists. The salon provides hair color, men and women's cuts, children's cuts, wedding hair styling, and special event hair.

The salon and boutique on Main Street also have a plenty of parking available. There is parking around the back of the building, as well as a generous space that they share with Cooper Electric on the south side. There are a number of spaces in the front on Main Street also.

Customers can also call for a Saturday appointment as well.

Wild Soul Boutique

Shonda Russell of Wild Soul Boutique shares the space on North Main Street with Jamie O'Neal.

She began her business in 2018 as a traveling and online boutique. She initially helped a cousin, who also has a traveling boutique. She followed her cousin for approximately three years, and helped her set up and sell at the venues.

"I really liked going to different places, meeting different people and finding things that people find unique — and carrying something a little bit different than other businesses," explained Russell.

After continuing to help her cousin for some time, Russell started a business of her own. She initially began her business with hats and shirts.

"It just expanded from there," she added.

When Russell started, she was traveled around to different events.

"When Jamie opened the salon, she invited me to rent a space within the salon, so that now I can have a home base here in Prineville," stated Russell.

Wild Soul Boutique specializes in customized clothing, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, snap-back hats, and customized logos. Russell can adhere vinyl logos to cotton blend, linen blend or polyester fabrics.

"I make the designs and create the clothing that way — with different logos," she pointed out.

Russell buys blank t-shirts and hats, then customizes her own designed logos and decals and presses them on with a hot press. She designed the Bristol Strong hats, as well as Timber Unity hats. Russell has created customized shirts and hats for several businesses around town.

She has also done several customized bags — including a dance studio from Washington State.

Russell carries hand-crafted, made-in-Oregon boutique items, such as jewelry, leather bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

"I like items geared towards the outdoors — hunting, fishing and camping," she said.

She offers blankets, pillows and knives. She is a dealer for "Outdoor Edge" knives. She is always looking for new items to add, and she also carries handbags, purses and wallets.

Like O'Neal, Russell indicated that customers should call for appointments outside of business hours.
