Prineville CPA firm adds a new partner
Evans, Bartlett, and Higbe, CPAs LLP have added a new partner to the firm, and he will be on board for the upcoming tax season.
"Jay Porter came over on Aug. 1 this last year and became a partner in our firm," Jerry Evans said. "We are really excited about that, and we are excited about the expertise he brings to the firm."
With the change comes one more name to the official title, making it Evans, Bartlett, Higbe and Porter, CPAs LLP.
Porter he brings with him 23 years of accounting experience. He had his own office in Prineville prior to joining the firm. He explained that after working as a sole practitioner, it is nice to have partners to bounce ideas off of and other partners to keep the workflow moving.
Porter grew up in eastern Colorado and joined the United States Air Force right out of high school. He indicated that the Air Force was never intended to be a full-time career.
"When my original four-year tour ended while overseas during Desert Storm, I reenlisted for another term," Porter said. "I ended up serving for seven years, instead of the original plan of four."
He was an avionics technician for the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft while in the Air Force. Upon his discharge from the service, he attended Arizona State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
Immediately upon graduation from college in 1996, he was recruited by Moss Adams LLP, a large regional accounting firm in Eugene. Porter worked there for three years before moving to Prineville to work for Les Schwab Tire Centers in the auditing department. He returned to public accounting in 2005, when he took a management position at the Prineville office for Holland and Brooks, CPAs.
Porter started his own accounting practice in 2009 and worked independently for 10 years before coming on board with Evans, Bartlett and Higbe, CPAs. He said he appreciates the wider breadth of services offered to their clients because the professional experience between the partners comes into play and they all have different backgrounds.
"That really lends a lot of perspective for the benefit of the clients because chances are, one of us has probably seen that situation before," Porter added. "It's a time savings, but it's also the value of our collective experience."
Evans, Bartlett, Higbe and Porter CPAs, LLP was initially opened in 1970 by Les Sundet. Jerry Evans joined the firm in 1987. Vic Bartlett followed in 2003, and Randy Higbe in 2009.
In addition to the Prineville office, Evans opened an office for the firm in Lakeview in January 2011. The Prineville office has the four partners, as well as three other certified public accountants, Steve Bjorvik, Kathy Withey and Emma Han. It also has four professional support staff.
"Bringing Jay in is a welcome addition to the firm," said Higbe.
With tax season in full swing, the firm will provide a variety of services, including income taxes, bookkeeping, payroll, financial statement compilations, personal property tax returns, tax and estate planning, and tax audit representation.
"I am happy to join the group and meld our expertise together for our clients," Porter concluded.
