Chamber gearing up to honor businesses, local leaders
As an opportunity to thank the community, our members and businesses for the outstanding work they are doing in Prineville and Crook County, the Prineville-Crook County Chamber of Commerce will hold the Annual Awards Banquet at the Crook County Fairgrounds in May.
Awards are presented to certain outstanding businesses, organizations and individuals annually. The purpose of the annual awards process is to recognize a few of those outstanding individuals and entities, and to incentivize others in the community to strive for greater accomplishments that benefit our entire community.
Each year there are many outstanding businesses, organizations and individuals who bring value and contribute to improving our community. In many cases, choosing who will receive the annual awards is a difficult process with no single clear standout.
The highest priority of the Chamber with the annual awards process is to facilitate a comprehensive, thorough and fair process for selecting which deserving businesses and organizations will be the recipients of each of the annual awards presented at the annual awards banquet. To be eligible for an award, the nominated business must be physically located in Crook County, must be a member of the Prineville-Crook County Chamber of Commerce and must have been in operation for the entirety of the calendar year of the awards period.
We also recognize individuals for their efforts. These nominees must be a resident of Central Oregon and their activities must have been performed, developed or achieved in Crook County, yet the nominated person does not need to be a member of the Prineville-Crook County Chamber of Commerce.
Winner Selection Process
Each year, the Chamber Board of Directors appoints an Awards Committee tasked with overseeing the annual award winner selection process. They are charged with gathering nominations, determining eligibility of nominees and selecting from the nominees which award candidates will appear on a ballot to be voted on by the membership to determine the winners of the annual awards.
The Awards Committee follows a process that completes three steps in the winner selection process:
The first step in the award winner selection process is for the Chamber Awards Committee to gather nominations from the community. Nominees are solicited from the Chamber membership, community organizations and the Chamber Board of Directors.
Shortly after the first of the new year, the Chamber Board and staff distribute to the entire chamber membership a nominating form and ask members to complete and return the form to the chamber with their nominations for the annual awards. The Chamber membership includes a wide base of businesses, organizations, local governments and individuals. Any Chamber member is encouraged to submit their nominations.
The Chamber Awards Committee also encourages the Chamber Board of Directors to submit a nomination form that includes suggestions for any nominations they may have.
The Awards Committee also may request nominations from specific active community organizations who interface or interact regularly with a wide variety of organizations and/or individuals in our community.
Reviewing and Selecting Nominees
At the end of the nominating period, the Awards Committee will meet to review each of the nominated candidates to determine eligibility. Nominees who do not meet the basic eligibility requirements will not be considered as candidates for an annual award.
The Awards Committee will then review the slate of nominees for each award and select from them those that most closely match the spirit of the award to appear on the final ballot. In some cases, all the nominees for a particular award may appear on the ballot. In cases where there are more than five nominees for an award, the Awards Committee may select up to five candidates to appear on the ballot.
After the Awards Committee has selected the nominees to appear on the ballot, they will present their recommendation to the Chamber Board of Directors for final approval. The ballot must be approved by vote of the board.
Voting for Winners
The winners for each award will be determined by a vote of the membership.
A ballot containing the list of the final candidates for each award is distributed to the Chamber membership.
Included with the ballot will be a deadline for voting and instructions to return the ballot to the Prineville-Crook County Chamber of Commerce. During the voting period, members can return their ballots to the chamber in person, by mail or by email. Following the voting deadline, all ballots will be submitted to the Annual Awards Committee.
The Annual Awards Committee then tallies the results of the voting and determines the winner of each award by majority vote. The awards committee will keep the results confidential. The results should be shared only with the Board of Directors and staff of the Chamber until they are revealed publicly at the Annual Awards Banquet.
