1970: Burglar breaks into Thriftwise Drug Store

The former home of William Boegli of Prineville at the old Cove orchards on lower Crooked river was destroyed by fire last Sunday night with a loss estimated at $2,000. The Cove property is now a state park, and the ranch house constructed about 45 years ago and enlarged by Mr. Boegli 40 years ago was being occupied by construction of a new Cove power plant.

Someone broke into Thriftwise Drug Store, 260 N. Main, sometime late Tuesday or early Wednesday morning, according city police.
Entry was made through the rear door after the glass was broken. The burglary was discovered shortly before 9 a.m. by owner Joe Lehmberg.
Voters in this divided community will go to the polls Friday to vote for the fifth time on one of the most controversial school budgets in history of the Crook County School District.So far, voters in this district have turned down four operational budget proposals and one serial levy for construction since the first election on Apr. 6.

Everybody knows Les Schwab has tires – thousands of them. Last week, Schwab broke ground on a project that'll give his tire business a place to store some of them.The new building will be situated on the south side of a 50 acre parcel on Millican Road. When completed, the huge 350 ft. by 1,285 ft. building will cover 10.33 acres and serve as warehouse, truck depot and staging area.
With the discovery by divers of a sinkhole, the source of major seepage from Ochoco Dam may have finally been identified.Construction representative Tom Hooper said underwater divers conducting dye tests along the face of the dam made the discovery late last week.
