Local mortgage company, Mann Mortgage, has presented six nonprofits with proceeds from every loan and transaction their business does each quarter this year

For the past six years, a program called "Your Vote Counts" has been providing local nonprofits a hand up to improve and benefit their important causes.

Chester Freeman, Central Oregon manager and mortgage advisor for Mann Mortgage, started the program. It is designed to assist local nonprofits by setting aside proceeds from every loan and transaction their business does.

"Each quarter, we reach out to local nonprofits, and the two nonprofits that get the most votes, they receive the funds for that quarter," indicated Freeman.

He began working for Mann Mortgage eight years ago. They specialize in home mortgage solutions, and they fund and service their own loans, including renovation loans, refinances, construction loans, VA loans, conventional loans, to name just a few.

"We do all the lending," said Freeman.

He indicated that the company was started 31 years ago by Don Mann in Montana. It is a family-owned company that emphasizes community relationships, honesty and integrity. Freeman said that he has an office in Redmond, Madras and Prineville.

"I hope more people find out about this, but I have my own nonprofit for neglected and abused children, so I can't be a part of all these," Freeman explained of his reason for making the contributions. "This is a way that I am able to give back to those, and it comes from all my loan officers and everybody's hard work. The goal for Crook County is $10,000 this year, and we will get pretty close to that in the fourth quarter for the total year."

He indicated that any nonprofit could come to Mann Mortgage and get a copy of the paperwork for votes.

"So, I am hoping more caring nonprofits figure out this is an amazing opportunity to get funds for their nonprofits during these uncertain times," he added.

To be eligible, any nonprofit can get a sheet from their office, and the vying nonprofit can make copies and pass them out and solicit votes. The first quarter of the 2020 year, Quilts of Valor and Prineville Senior Center received the votes; second quarter, Humane Society of the Ochocos and Crook County Friends of Canines received the most votes.

"The checks we are providing for the third quarter are MountainStar Relief Nursery for $1,800 and Redemption House for $1,000."

So far, the first two quarters netted $6,650 for the above nonprofits, and Freeman anticipates that this quarter will bring in about half again as much.

"Usually when we have a lot of votes, it means there is strength behind the nonprofit, and I know that it has ongoing possibility," he went on to explain.

Over the past three years, Mann Mortgage has given more than $30,000 to nonprofits in Crook County alone, although it is done in the other Central Oregon communities as well.

"As owner/operator and Crook County resident myself, I will continue this through the years! It is a blessing to be able to give back to very deserving organizations," said Freeman.
