One year after opening her doors, Jamie Diangson celebrated the year of success for her store, The Cute Cactus Children's Boutique.
"Tomorrow is my exact one-year anniversary date from opening," Diangson said of her anniversary date on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
On Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23, she offered 20% off used clothing and shoes and 15% off everything else in her store. Shelby Forrest from Rafter S Creations offered custom cookies for customers to help with the celebration. Diangson greeted loyal customers and new customers during her anniversary celebration.
"It's nice to still be open, considering the year that we had," she remarked.
The children's clothing boutique opened on Jan. 22, 2020. Less than three months after her grand opening, Diangson had to close her doors due to the pandemic. She had to become creative on keeping her business going and serving her customers.
"I posted a lot on Facebook — albums of every size that I had and the new toys that I had and sold a lot that way."
She also did curbside pickup and delivered for customers.
"I honestly think that is the only thing that helped me through those two months," she added.
Diangson has new and used clothing, with kids clothing newborn up to size up to 12-14. She has a section of new clothing, as well as books, toys, baby furniture and gifts ideas. She also carries maternity clothing and items for new moms.
Over the past year, she has found that most of the inventory she has carried in her store has sold and proved to be popular for her customers. She has added more racks due to receiving more clothing. Diangson believes that it is important for local customers to have a place to buy children's toys, clothing or gifts.
"I definitely feel like Prineville absolutely needed this. It's shown by how much I sell of stuff — just everything," she said of her sales.
The Cute Cactus carries toys for a wide age range — from babies though older children — including the brand Melissa and Doug. There are also used shoes, new pacifier clips, teethers and hair accessories.
When customers bring in clothes, shoes and other baby items, Diangson goes through them and picks what she would like in the store. The customer gets a 50% store credit good on all the other used clothes, shoes and smaller items in the store. That way they do not have to wait for their items to sell like they would in a consignment shop.
Prior to opening the Cute Cactus, Diangson had three years of experience owning and operating a retail store, and she previously owned a children's consignment store in Prineville.
