A new clothing store that caters to young men's clothing and accessories is now open for business.
The clothing store, Dirty Arrow Street Wear, is owned by a mother/daughter team, Kim Johnston and Maggie Gonzalez. The women opened their store on Dec. 4, with each offering their own talents and expertise in the business.
Johnston, who has been doing accounting for more than 40 years, also does the books for the business. Maggie does most of the day-to-day operations and can be found all of the time during business hours.
"I am going to be getting into my years of not working all the time, and she and I wanted to find something that would be kind of fun to do," explained Johnston of their decision to open the store. "This just kind of came up, and we were like, 'of course we can do that.'"
Gonzalez explained that as they considered a clothing boutique, but they felt there were plenty of great women's stores in town.
"The guys only had a couple of options, so we kind of decided it was needed," explained Gonzalez of the new men's clothing store.
She added that they chose not to focus on western wear, since Men's Wear already had that well-covered. Their niche is concentrated on young men's wear. The store offers a variety of shirts, jackets, jeans, and accessories. Ther are also a number of fun signs and home décor items to choose from.
The mantra of their store is, "Clothing and accessories for your everyday guy." Gonzalez said that there are many items for anyone, but their store is geared towards men. There are also underclothes, socks, hats, gloves, and flannels for men. Light jackets, hoodies, shaving kits, and funny signs can also be found on the premises.
"We are looking for all things men," added Johnston. "That is what we are trying to cater to."
The two women laughed about their different sense of humor, and their individual personalities are apparent as one walks through the store. The women both come from Redmond and have made Prineville their home. They both love the town.
"Prineville is a lovely place. We love being here," said Johnston. "I have been living her for over six years, and Maggie has been here now for four years."
Johnston indicated that they have met and become friends with many of the business owners in town. They have been impressed with the fact that other businesses in town refer customers to other venues in town when they can't offer what they are looking for. Business cards from other local businesses can be found at their front counter.
"All the businesses have been supportive, and they definitely have been reposting our posts," Gonzalez emphasized. "The support here is insane."
"We plan on staying," added Johnston.
When asked about their business name, Gonzalez explained that they were looking for a name that wasn't western, but still rustic and had the Prineville theme. She personally likes arrows and has a wall in her living room with a collection of arrows. They came up with the name and discovered it was available — so the name was created.
The women have chosen to participate with the downtown events happening with the Chamber of Commerce.
"We just want to be part of all of that."
