Evans, Bartlett, Higbe, and Porter, CPAs LLP, changed their name on Jan. 1, but stressed that they will continue the same excellent customer service with the same staff as before

RAMONA MCCALLISTER - The local firm has served Prineville and Lakeview for more than 50 years and was founded by Les Sundet.

Local CPA office Evans, Bartlett, Higbe and Porter, has recently been acquired by Capstone Certified Public Accountants, LLC.

As of Jan. 1, 2022, they changed their name to the new firm, Capstone Certified Public Accountants, LLC. The office will retain the same locations and staff. Capstone is a progressive accounting firm offering traditional tax and financial services, with additional specialty offerings such as financial audits, divorce/separation services, wealth management, litigation support, and business valuations.

According to a recent news release sent out to current clients, "The new firm will provide a wider array of communications options for more efficient information transfers."

The news release also went on to say, "Capstone shares our values. We have given this considerable thought before making the decision to accept their offer. They met and exceeded our hopes in finding a firm we could join and continue the tradition we have for excellent service, deep expertise, and an environment that our clients can be part of."

The local firm has served Prineville and Lakeview for more than 50 years, and was founded by Les Sundet. Randy Higbe, one of the local CPAs, reported that Evans, Bartlett, Higbe and Porter has grown fast and reached capacity.

"Now with Capstone, we can continue to grow," continued Higbe. "We were pretty much at capacity, or over it actually, and with Capstone we have so many more resources available to us and so much more experience available to us."

He added that they have been proud of how they have provided quality services for their clients, and how they have grown with them and helped them grow. The result of the success of their clients has helped them to grow over the years, and with growth comes the need for more skilled staff, advanced technologies, efficiencies, and service offerings. Evans, Bartlett, Higbe, and Porter, CPAs LLP decided to seek an affiliation with a larger organization to allow them to provide a wider array of services and more depth.

Higbe has been with the firm 12 years, and Jerry Evans, the senior CPA of the Prineville firm, has been there the longest at 35 years. Vic Bartlett has been with them 20 years, with Jay Porter and Steve Bjorvik joining the firm most recently.

"The firm is the same, it just merged into Capstone," said Evans. "It's the same people and the same everything that it has always been, it's just now part of Capstone."

He added that with their technology, staff can work remotely as needed. Staff can be in other offices and still work on other things for clients.

"It's one of the pluses of technology, and one of the pluses of just how the world has changed. It is still the same firm, we have just merged into a larger firm, and we will still have the same service that we have had before," concluded Evans.

Capstone has offices in Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Eugene, Sandpoint, Idaho and Seattle, Washington. Prineville and Lakeview are the two most recent offices to merge with the larger firm.

Greg Lankston, CPA for Capstone Certified Public Accountants, commented that the acquisition of the Prineville office allows them to better serve their clients and to create a larger footprint in Central Oregon.

"It lets us serve our clients as we have expanded throughout Central Oregon and to take advantage of Prineville being a growing community — by having resources available to take on the new clients who are moving there and be a part of that growth with them," Lankston noted.

He added that one of the things that they are trying to bring to the table is their coordinated financial care model, with the goal of every client to have a financial plan and estate plan. They have some close partnership relationships with a wealth advisory firm and estate planning firm that they try to bring in as needed to help clients.

"Not only are we doing tax returns, but we want to plan for people's future to help them build and preserve wealth."
