The annual Splash N Dash has seen recent growth, and is expected to once again have a competitive field

The Splash N Dash has become an annual Prineville Tradition.

The event, which takes palce each year on the Fourth of July starting at the Prineville Pool and finishing in Ochoco Creek Park is one of the most exciting multi-sport events in Central Oregon.

The race allows entries for both individual racers as well as relay teams, and this year literally has something for everyone.CENTRAL OREGONIAN FILE PHOTO - Racers can compete on teams or individually in the Splash N Dash, which is scheduled to begin at the Prineville Swimming Pool on Tuesday, July 4. The multi-sport event had more than 170 competitors a year ago.

The traditional course includes a swim, bike ride, paddle down Crooked River and a run.

The four leg event begins with a 500 meter swim in the pool followed by a 13 mile bike ride, a 1.5 mile kayak leg and finishes with a four mile run.

Recently the event has also added a more traditional triathlon for those who wish to participate, but do not have a kayak or canoe available.

The triathlon will compete on the same length course as the four event Splash N Dash, minus the kayaking leg.

Last year organizers added a duathlon consisting of a 13 mile bike ride and a four mile run.

This year event organizers have added a 5K run to the festivities.

Registration is available at the Crooke County Chamber of Commerce, or at the pool on the day of the race.

The first wave of racers begin at 8 a.m. with racing continuing until all teams are finished.

Cost for each of the four events is $25 per team member, or $30 per individual.

The first wave of racers will start at 8 a.m.

Team categories include business team, family team, female team, male team, mixed team, and school team.

This year, there will also be awards for the best costumes. For teams, the award will go to the most original and over-the-top set of costumes. For individuals dress the part, it is the Fourth of July, so be patriotic.
